Demolition of Bowden View Bridge, M56 J7

The bridge across the motorway was demolished on 16th October 2010. The eastbound carriageway section had gone first.

The westbound carriageway section of the bridge remains

The deck is brought down in one piece

Just the central pier left.

The next bridge along the motorway formed a perfect vantage point for a fair few onlookers.

Media City Swing Bridge

Today I went for a walk over the new Media City bridge under construction at Salford Quays. About 85m long in total, there is currently only about 60m of the deck assembled. The bridge will have a see-through mesh floor along one side and the other side solid – it’ll be 8 or 9m wide at one end and about 20m at the other. It should be being lifted into place during August 2010.

Information about how it will look when finished is here.

Irwell Bridges

It seems that the bridges over the River Irwell south of Manchester Cathedral have some signs giving a little historical context to the river. It forms an informative meander through Salford & Manchester if you work your way along them all…

Arches

The viaduct behind the Charles Street multi-storey car park in Manchester. This would have been my entry in the Capture Manchester competition if I had remembered to enter it in time. Oh well…

Deansgate Railway Stn link bridge

One bridge that seemingly has two personalities. At night, the major feature of the bridge that links Deansgate Railway Station and the G-Mex Metrolink tram stop are the metal arches running the length of the structure. During the day, it is the large white triangulated beams outside the perspex windows that are the major feature and the arches are not as apparent. I shall head back during daylight to take a photo of the other version of the bridge.
