M63 Motorway construction

CLC Railway, Stockport – (Tiviot Dale to Portwood)

A selection of photographs of the Cheshire Lines Committee railway line which served Stockport Tiviot Dale Railway Station pre-construction of the M63.

  • Lancashire Hill from Tiviot Dale = Looking north.  Lancashire Hill Flats have been constructed.  The railway station platforms are clearly visible and the outline of the demolished station building remains in the highway retaining wall.

  • Stewart Street / Port Street = Looking east along what was to become the alignment of the M63 (later M60).  Stewart Street Air Raid Shelters were under the sandstone at this location and were demolished during the motorway construction works.
