Having just utilised the lawnmower there remained clumps of grass cuttings all over the lawn. Mr H. Hog came to observe the newly cut lawn. He was somewhat lucky not to have been stood upon by someone running around the garden…

This is a tree; here is a cow… and look, a rock.
You can tell the tree is a tree because of its bark, branches and bows etc., but more than that because of its essential “treeness”.
Ditto our friend the cow, she is identifiable as a cow by her hooves, her horns, her teats, by the flies around her eyes, and by her imbecilic stare like minor royalty; but more than that, she is identifiable as a cow because of her basic “cowness”.
Likewise the rock; sometimes a rock, a particular rock can look like a slumped cow, but mostly, rocks look like rocks.
Now we are going to see some transformed tree, some worked over cow and some altered rock.

One of the two parallel tunnels was used by the CEGB c.1960s as a water filled coolant tunnel and extended to the site of the former Stockport Power Station, presently the Peel Centre. This tunnel remains flooded.

The other tunnel, possibly interconnected or maybe not - diverged part way and continued for almost half a mile. The location of this entrance matches with where an entrance should be as shown on the plan I have, hence it should run for 15m - 20m before doubling back on itself to the right running for around 10m and then intersecting the Ancient Corn Tunnel.

Given the arch barrel looks far too flat for my liking and I can’t help wondering where all the loose bricks have come from, this looks like a challenge for the ROV I had started building a while ago (a remote controlled car with a camera stuck to the top!). Time will tell what actually lies in the distance…

From the Attenborough Nature Reserve, I took the bike out for a ride along the River Trent to Trent Lock - always a pleasant destination. The cows were in the watercourse called the “Cranfleet Cut” that diverts river traffic off the Trent.

Chilwell, Nottingham. One day the tram will come through here and this will be a park and ride facility but for now, everything is pretty much rural.

Work has been progressing on the Council’s upgrade to the A6 junction next to the Town Hall for a few months now. Today came a source of interest for everyone in the office overlooking the work. By looking closely, it becomes clear just what is in the excavation… it is the old tram lines that were used up until 1950.

Part of the Rhino Mania exhibition - Rhynosaur is currently living at Liverpool Lime Street Station.

This evening was “Frank’s Fantastic Farewell” at Castlefield Arena. A free event put together as a tribute to the character that was Frank Sidebottom with live music and video of the character himself shown. As the night went on, the venue filled up rather well.
