I made a brief visit to the area of Rutland Water around Barnsdale in October. Home to multiple sporting activities and more leisurely pursuits it is somewhere I will revisit next summer with my bike to complete a loop of the lake and explore the village of Upper Hambleton on the central promontory and also Normanton Church which survived the initial flooding of the area during the creation of the lake.

When I first started running last October, I had aimed to end up running a 5k distance in around 25 minutes – I thought that would be a reasonable achievement. If just my results from the same 5k course in Princes Park, Liverpool are considered then I am now running 9 minutes faster over the 5k distance compared to back in October 2011. Not a bad statistic. I now want to have a 5k finish time that starts with a 1. I’ll give myself 18 months to achieve a sub-20:00 finish.
