Notes for self…

May 31, 2006, 11:32 pm

(a) You can get unleaded petrol at the Shell Petrol Station on Regent Road in Salford for 91.9p!!!! Try and beat that :-p

(b) Hitting ones knee with a lump hammer when trying to split concrete blocks is erroneous behaviour and causes large bruises / localised swelling :-(

Gardening Blog - month 2/12

May 30, 2006, 5:29 pm

Things seem to be growing at pace, the new lawn is nearing it’s first trim - with garden shears, it’s too early for a lawnmower. I also have another video of Mr Squirrel this time hanging upside down on a bird feeder which I really should get round to putting online.

The first photo is from a month ago, the second from today. Click on them for bigger 180Kb or so versions.

It’ll be interesting to see the changes the seasons have on basically the same photo over a 12 month period…

Railway Announcements

May 24, 2006, 5:49 pm

Announcement at Manchester Piccadilly Station :-

“Passengers waiting for the Northern Rail service to Wilmslow should be aware that this service is currently running 15 minutes late…”

What it should have said :-

“Passengers waiting for the Northern Rail service to Wilmslow should be aware that we’re incompetent and the train is delayed because the driver and guard have been at Oxford Road station looking for their train.”

10 minutes earlier I had been at Oxford Road station evesdropping in on the phone call the driver was making to the depot which went along the lines of “Where’s my train??” It seems no-one had told him it wasn’t starting from Oxford Road as usual but from Piccadilly instead.

New improved Magic Buses

May 23, 2006, 7:44 pm

Has anyone else noticed how blue the Magic Bus fleet are looking today? At first I thought one had been repainted but then I noticed another and another. I think they’ve just all been washed… it’s amazing the difference!

Historic road signing

May 23, 2006, 6:10 pm

Signs that have stood the test of time… as the Cheshire Lines Committee ceased to be sometime in the 1920-30’s and it mentions the Locomotive Act of 1898 it must be at least 80 years old. Even though it’s been superceded by a more visible “25T” hazard road sign there are two of them still on the road bridge over Sankey Railway station.

Spelling Mistakes

May 22, 2006, 12:39 pm

This is the sort of stuff people never ever notice and one of the reasons I started looking at architecture in such detail. I wonder what the foreman said to the stonemason a hundred years or so ago when he spelled “acknowledgement” incorrectly on the Albert Memorial in Albert Square in Manchester. A section of stone has been removed and replaced…
