Viva Las Beswick!
January 30, 2007, 7:39 pmEveryone i’ve heard is busy talking about how the new Super Casino will affect Manchester, no doubt all the mancunian blogs are too. For me though it’s the building which is of interest. From the mock-ups i’ve seen on BBC North West Tonight, it appears to be of a similar design to an airport terminal - long, slender with a high roof. It would be a fun structure for someone to design methinks!! I’m looking forward to it arriving…
I’m surprised no-one is using this image of the new building more, it shows the design a lot better… this from the BBC Manchester Website.

Quote of the day
January 29, 2007, 5:58 pmThat’s what my desk calendar had to say on Monday 4th December 2001… It sums up perfectly that report i’ve been trying to write today…

Cuboid
January 29, 2007, 5:27 pmI caught the last few minutes of Richard Fair’s programme on BBC Radio Manchester this afternoon… today’s final guest was a woman from CUBE on Portland Street talking about architecture in Manchester. Their latest exhibition is entitled “Time Lapse” and appears to involve construction photography. The preview night is Wednesday 31st Jan, 5:30pm-8pm and as it’s free, possibly worth a browse…

Salford Quays
January 28, 2007, 9:21 pm
Last tuesday was indeed a good day for photography around Salford Quays, not a cloud in the sky meant you could use the blue of the sky to its best effect. It was just a shame it was bitterly cold and rather windy or I would have explored a little more. I’ve got a feeling there are definitely some good photo’s to be had around there…

Where you “one sandwich short of a picnic” prior to 1993?
January 27, 2007, 7:32 pmTwo links I never thought i’d ever see on the BBC website…
First there was “Find out more about dogging”, then if you’re brave enough to click on it you can “Click here to email us your evidence about dogging”! The mind boggles…
Either the Beeb has descended into the gutter in search of viewers for its programmes or a new series of Balderdash & Piffle is on its way…

Bug of the Week #11
January 24, 2007, 5:50 pmHere he is… the last BBC Raw bug left on the bus. Until I came along he was happily living in BBC Radio Manchester’s Studio 6 but was successfully detatched from whatever he was stuck too and given to me.

IckleWEB live on the BBC…
January 23, 2007, 5:17 pm…BBC Radio Manchester in fact, I was interviewed by Richard Fair on his afternoon show talking about architecture, bugs and bridges. Being presented live on air with (what was probably) the last BBC Raw bug remaining in Studio 6 was a nice extra. It will definitely feature as a bug of the week very soon!
It was a good day for photography around the Lowry whilst I was waiting to be interviewed too, i’ve a fair few photo’s to post. And just for the record… the bridge to the side of where we were sitting was of a Cable Stayed Truss Girder design attached to hydraulic jacks at either side. I think I answered with something along those lines to Richard’s question!! …possibly.
