Football Stadia Panoramas

March 29, 2007, 5:37 pm

I seem to be gathering a collection of football stadia panoramas. First, last year there was The City of Manchester Stadium, then a few weeks ago, Old Trafford - now I can add the (rather tiny in comparison) JJB Stadium, home of Wigan Athletic. Click thumbnails for larger images.

Pleasant Commuter route

March 29, 2007, 4:35 pm

I’ve decided - my next job will be based in Wigan. Today I had the dream commute for my course up there - just 25 minutes in total. This morning the M6 was empty going north, stationary going south and the other way round this evening! I didn’t leave the house this morning until just after 8am (in contrast to my usual 6:50am departure to get into Stockport)…

It has been a good day.

Abstract Sculpture Photography

March 28, 2007, 4:50 pm

I’m not sure if anyone wondered where the photo in the new title graphic for the website came from… It’s something metallic and located in Piccadilly Gardens. I’ve never stood underneath it, pointed my camera upwards and clicked before. The fact it was dusk I think worked in my favour!

Town Hall Spire

March 26, 2007, 8:15 pm

The Manchester Town Hall spire at dusk. I think it is the crop of the photograph that does it… I can’t stop thinking of the Crocodile from the title sequence of the now defunct BBC1 programme “On the Record” when I look at it.

Big Crane!

March 25, 2007, 2:10 pm

The “Public Realm Renewal” going on in Exchange Square, Manchester, seemingly requires a huge crane… Is the Big Wheel due back very soon? - I can’t think of anything else that would require such a crane.

Bug of the Week #16

March 24, 2007, 2:28 pm

A rare flying bug! This is a Fly-Helicentre bug aquired somewhere around 10 years ago during an open day at RAF Burtonwood.

Transition

March 22, 2007, 7:32 pm

I’m about due for another photo of this particular construction site in Manchester. It was formerly the site of the Little Chef at the end of Plymouth Grove at its junction with Upper Brook Street - soon it will be flats of some sort… The first photo is from December 2006, the others are from February 2007.

Toys for REALLY rich kids!

March 22, 2007, 6:59 pm

There I was at a drainage exhibition looking at what I think would become next years must have toy for kids… if they knew they existed! CCTV drain cameras are pretty cool things, the ones on show had big 4×4 type wheels, lights and of course a camera. Great fun. This little cheap & cheerful one is all I could find on the internet to demonstrate what i’m talking about… you should get the idea however. I didn’t enquire as to the price of an all-singing-all-dancing one but the “economy crawler” i’ve linked to is £15,500.

Gridlock?

March 19, 2007, 5:57 pm

One place to avoid like the plague… A site has been set up with information about the closure of the A6 just north of Stockport over summer.
