POP!
July 31, 2007, 10:57 amI had hoped to find the word “strawberry” in the list of ingredients on my Sainsbury’s Strawberry Fizz. Alas not, the taste comes from a mixture of Carrot and Blackcurrant apparently…

Take me to your leader…
July 30, 2007, 9:05 pmEither there has been an internal addition to the Triangle in Manchester since I last went inside or an alien spacecraft has taken up residence masquerading as a Caffe Nero.

Warrington Music Festival
July 29, 2007, 6:58 pmI walked into Warrington yesterday for the Warrington Music Festival, held in Queens Gardens, Palmyra Square, comprising of two stages featuring local unsigned bands.
Personal favourites from the day were the Chase HQ Allstars (of course!), Bill Davro & the Popes, The Cordells, and the Alcoholic Rats weren’t too bad either. The fact the event was completely free sort of makes up for the extensive sunburn we all arrived home with in the evening - Ouch!

The difference a day makes…
July 28, 2007, 12:59 amYesterday the leader of Stockport Council was proclaiming “As things stand, congestion charging for Stockport is now dead in the water” on radio stations and television news programmes following the councils ‘no vote’ in relation to the congestion charge. Today he has been significantly quieter following the decision by the 10 Greater Manchester Councils to jointly go ahead with the congestion charge proposal regardless of Stockport & Trafford Councils ‘no votes’. Following the decision, Dave, the leader of Stockport Council commented that the decision was “a sad day for democracy”. Privately, I suspect his comments were probably slightly more colourful…

2 / 10 councils say ‘no’
July 26, 2007, 9:42 pmAh, you’ve got to like Dave, he’s great fun. I heard him on the radio earlier today talking in his usual no nonsense, straight to the point, say it like you see it way. Stockport Council has now joined Trafford Council in opposing the congestion charge. The other eight councils are going with the thumbs up.

Lost Architectural feature
July 26, 2007, 9:11 pmIt seems the remaining ornate stone carved doorway on Whitworth Street which was featured as Manchester Architecture #26 has been demolished. This is the view of the building site from Princess Street taken yesterday - the doorway was located between the red van and the porta-loo in the distance.

Looking west, away from the Thurstaston Visitors Centre on the Wirral. I particularly liked the composition of this one.

Memories of bygone cars
July 23, 2007, 7:35 pm“I loved my TR7. His name was Trevor. He used to break down a lot. He finally died at the Isle of Wight ferry terminal in Porstmouth with one eye open and one shut. I got a Toyota MR2 mk2 instead, but it just wasn’t the same. RIP Trevor.”
Awww, this was posted by someone on a TR7 group in Facebook. It reminded me just why I tend not to flash my lights when driving the black TR7… one eye stays open, the other retracts back into the engine bay. The cause - the flippy light mechanism jams and requires dismantling and reconstructing. A good kick to the top of the light tends to do the trick but then you have to pull over to deliver the blow.
As for the breaking down, i’ve never had much of a problem with that on any of mine… disintergrating bodywork is a different matter!
