Mis-quote

October 31, 2007, 12:32 pm

According to the 11am news bulletin on 96.2, The Revolution, “… George Best, well known as the fifth Beatle” is having his biography produced. It’ll be interesting to learn how George fitted in a football career with all the Beatles gigs in the 1960’s. Surely everyone knows Pete Best is generally referred to as the fifth Beatle…

Heading down the travelator at Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station. Reducing the image size gives some pretty patterns on the metal floor.

Fungi

October 25, 2007, 7:13 pm

A certain back garden in Wolverhampton was full of many varieties of fungi during a very brief visit last week. My favourite appears to have been Coprinus Comatus. It is just a shame I didn’t have my other camera with the macro lens with me at the time…

I name this train, Penny.

October 19, 2007, 5:53 pm

20 years ago British Rail would have called this train something along the lines of “Longsight Diesel Traction Depot”, something that interested those type of people standing on ends of platforms with their flasks of weak lemon tea. These days Virgin obviously are trying to entertain the 16 and under market with names such as “Penny the Pendolino”. The next stage will be to paint faces on the front of their trains…

The next generation of Blogging…

October 19, 2007, 8:24 am

I’m testing out for the first time on the move my new vodafone USB broadband modem with the laptop. I’m now on the Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes train (train number 3 of the morning). The internet connection is rather good, apart from a flat spot in signal around Irlam. The days of sitting on a train, staring out of the window because you have forgotten to bring something productive to do is long gone… now you can blog!

Manchester’s best chippy

October 18, 2007, 6:00 pm

It must be a few years now since the Station Chippy under the Piccadilly Gardens hotel closed for the final time. It was a shame - it was easily Manchester’s finest chip establishment. No doubt it was due to the redevelopment of the entire building. It has remained there, visible for all to see for what seems like an age until a few months ago. Now it is no longer visible at all, it is all partitioned off whilst every trace of it is removed to make space for some new development.
