Arched ceiling
April 30, 2008, 8:13 pm
This is the ceiling of the upstairs viewing gallery in the room Manchester Rag held their annual Beneficiaries Evening. Alas, I can’t remember the name of the room, however it was in the Whitworth building.
It reminds me of the photo’s I took from the roof of the MMU “Toastrack building” further south towards Fallowfield a few years ago…

Local Elections
April 30, 2008, 12:09 pmIt is local elections time and it is nice to see the borough council wasting so much money even before the vote. At first I received a polling card stating my polling station would be the “Youth & Community Centre” in the local park as usual. A couple of days later I noticed a blue portakabin had been placed next to it. Moving on a further few days, I received a new polling card stating my polling station would now be “Mobile Unit - Youth & Community Centre”.
Today I have had a note pushed through the letter box from the official returning officer informing me that my polling station now won’t be the “mobile unit”, instead it will be “Barrow Hall Community Primary School on Barrow Hall Road”. Hopefully there won’t be a 4th alteration to the location - it is hovever concerning that the council has got the address of the school wrong in that it is actually located on Barrow Hall Lane…
Going with my method of deciding who I should vote for from the last election (which in the end resulted in me voting Green Party) i.e. “I will vote for whoever bothers to make the effort to canvas my vote”, so far the Lib Dem candidates are the only ones who have made any effort this time round. They are going on the “improved bus stops” and “improved drainage to the road outside the local shop” ticket…

Incorrect Estimations…
April 26, 2008, 10:16 pmI’m looking forward to finding out whether British Gas believe me when their online meter reading database works out that during the last quarter (covering the winter months), I have only used 64 units of gas rather than the 1097 units they have estimated I have used. I expect the bill to be reduced from £333.44 to £14.73!
Well, I tend to use electricity instead of gas these days…

Dead End
April 22, 2008, 7:06 pmYou know it is time to get a new Manchester A-Z when you turn off the A538 into Altrincham Road to find that the road that is clearly shown on the map as going on for several miles towards Quarry Bank Mill now lasts less than 100 yards as someone has built a HUGE runway through it…
It is the first discrepancy I have noticed on the map to date - especially as I travel along the M63 every morning to work…

MK Shopping Tree
April 15, 2008, 7:32 pmI took this photo in January 2007 on one of my many trips down to Milton Keynes. I’ve always liked this tree - it is in the middle of the main shopping centre with the shops built around. I’ve no idea why I havent posted this before…

MEN Arena swimming pool
April 10, 2008, 7:02 amThe 9th world short course swimming championships started yesterday in the MEN Arena. Most amusing comment from all of the interviewed competitors was the american who on being asked the question “What do you think about Manchester?”, replied “I really like it over here, i’m such a big Beatles fan…”. There you go, she obviously thinks the Beatles are actually from Manchester.

Skyline Central
April 7, 2008, 8:12 pmI have taken a photo of this building on Rochdale Road in Manchester before but none of the ball suspended between the buildings. From different angles, you can create various different patterns.
