Piccadilly Tower (2)
September 30, 2008, 5:30 pmContinuing photos from the work being carried out adjacent to Store Street, Manchester from May - September 2008.

My previous photos from March 2008 & May 2008 are here.
Additionally, I have found some old photos on the Manchester City Council website. The first from 1977 is similar to my first photo from March 2008, the second an aerial view from 1926 showing what was once on top of the now demolished arched row structure (the left centre square warehouse still exists in the 2008 photos above) and the third shows the demolition of the goods yard from 1966 (the building to the right is the same building on the left of all the 2008 photos above).

Spare Paint?
September 28, 2008, 10:25 pmThe Nottingham City Council cycle lane painters have been busy in Chilwell. I guess that no-one has ever used this cycle lane - mainly as it pointlessly loops 180 degrees but also as it comes out of a minor residential side road.

Size Matters
September 23, 2008, 8:10 pm
This was the best (most amusing) / worst (shortest parking space) i’ve had the misfortune of parking in. The car stuck out almost 1.5m from the end of the bays… so I used 2 bays.

Arrrgh!
September 21, 2008, 12:57 amMethinks Northern Rail are recruiting drivers from outside the profession these days. Maybe there be lots of booty to be pillaged on the railways for a pirate driver?!

Bug of the Week #26
September 17, 2008, 8:22 pm
This little bug arrived in the post today. He must have got tired flying all the way from Cumbria where he promotes Streetsafe in Barrow-in-Furness to Northampton, I suppose Kettering as well before deciding he should take it easy by travelling in the post back up north. I managed to grab a photo of him whilst he was resting in the garden…

Air Raid Shelters, Stockport
September 16, 2008, 8:52 pmThis was the only Heritage Open Days event I went to this year, it was a tour through the public part of the Air Raid Shelters in Central Stockport. There are other tours through the rest of the tunnels normally closed off to the public once a month…

Star Wars Drinking Games
September 14, 2008, 2:25 amIt was short lived… Burge and Phil were initially enthusiastic until it dawned on them that they actually didn’t know the answers to any of the questions and were downing far too many of Tash’s forfeit shots…

Geography Lessons
September 12, 2008, 7:18 pmI had to chuckle at the announcement made by a news reporter on BBC Radio Manchester this evening. Apparently after the recent fire, Eurostar were wanting to resume services as soon as possible through the channel tunnel between England and… Wales. You had to actually be listening carefully to catch the gaffe as she moved onto something else straight after without even pausing to consider what she had just said. Obviously the french live in Wales… now I never knew that.

Dino’s lurking in the bushes
September 10, 2008, 8:40 pm

I wonder why garden centres buy fibreglass dinosaurs? The first is in Rivendell Garden Centre near Widnes and the other is in Bent’s Garden Centre, north west of Warrington.
