Autumn site visits

October 30, 2008, 6:27 pm

Even when it is freezing cold, so cold that my fingers start to not function properly and not to mention when it is raining as well, i’m always happy to take yet another photo of the nearby Otterspool Bridge (c.1660). It has an impressive span for such an early masonry bridge.

Sell, Sell, Sell!

October 29, 2008, 5:25 pm

For a few moments I was all set to retire and move to the Caribbean… then it dawned on me that the BP share price quoted on the BBC News website might not be entirely correct…

Special People

October 25, 2008, 12:52 am

Insanity breeds insanity so they say, there was a lot of it in Manchester today. Some dilusional chap who had brought along his own sign was preaching to anyone and everyone on Market Street. Amongst his drivel was the story that apparently the earthquakes in Manchester last year were directly due to the people of the city being whores… it was quality street entertainment, even some paralytic beggar with dried faeces all over his coat was listening in but unlike everyone else who were some distance away he stood less than two feet away from the preacher almost as if he was trying to stare him out. It was probably a good thing to have a lot of the special people all together in one place.

In addition, there was the Mormon who thought I would like to be one too. I think he was a little surprised by how many offensive words I was able to combine into one sentence in reply. He left me alone after that.

…and there was Harry’s new friend in the pub - now he was special!

Maybe tomorrow will be quieter?…

Wetherspoons, Beeston

October 22, 2008, 6:44 pm

Being a shareholder in this fine chain of pubs it is reassuring the management have reacted to the electricity price rises and credit crunch by putting the lights on half or a third brightness so early in the day… I’ve never been in a Wetherspoons with “ambient mood lighting” before so early… it’s unusual but something I approve of when considering the company profits and shareholders dividend!

…and yes there may be reasons why I am also drinking a Britvic branded beverage.

Lambeth Town Hall

October 16, 2008, 2:57 pm

Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton. It is an interesting junction to stand and watch traffic flow or lack of flow and the “interaction” between motorists. The council appear to be remodelling Brixton Road which may have something to do with the congestion.

Bradys, Brixton

October 16, 2008, 12:49 pm

This curious disused building down a side street in Brixton caught my eye mainly as it looks like the viaduct has sliced through it. I would assume the viaduct came first though…

Tube

October 16, 2008, 11:40 am

Down in London… Obviously I wasn’t travelling during a busy part of the day - i’ve never had a tube carriage completely to myself before.

Bearings

October 15, 2008, 9:03 am

The A1 was hiding from me last night, exasserbated with me leaving all my maps in the Almera at home - I unintentially visited Brampton, Newmarket and Bishops Stortford near Gatwick Airport (which if you plot the places on a map will show just how lost I was!). How nice. This was some mediocre services I found near Bishops Stortford.
