Travel with East Midlands Trains…
November 29, 2009, 8:16 pmIt hasn’t been a particularly good day on the East Midlands Trains operated Liverpool to Norwich route. I thought a day trip into Nottingham to visit house no.2 was an idea given that trains run direct from Warrington and are only £24.60 (less than I use in petrol when I drive). Alas the service I was on going to Nottingham broke down just outside Deansgate Station. After around 15 minutes, it managed to limp into Oxford Road Station getting 3 of the 4 coaches to the platform before coming to a halt. The official line was “This train has been delayed by a train fault”. In actual fact, the brakes were stuck on.
The replacement train was so full by the time it arrived in Stockport that of all the people standing on the platform, only 4 people managed to fit in before the doors were closed.
Arrival 1hr 09mins late (50% refund of ticket value is now due)
It seems the 1737 from Nottingham back to Liverpool is currently running 26 minutes late. The official line for that delay is “This train has been delayed by a person hit by a train”. So a good train to have missed.
The 1938 is so far running to schedule, but it hasn’t reached Chesterfield yet so there is plenty of time for a delay!

Can of Mystery
November 26, 2009, 8:27 pmThere in the bargain bin at the Co-op in Sankey tonight amongst the discounted bread, grapefruit and viennese whirls was a shiny metal can. It was minus any label other than a sticker that read “Can of Mystery”. It was reduced to 46p! Whatever it was…
Given my fussy eating habits, I decided to leave the can of… soup, spaghetti, ravioli or something else and just went for the bread.

£50m to revamp railway stations
November 17, 2009, 10:11 pmDuring the last week, i’ve visited two of the alleged worst railway stations in the country - one of them several times. A list of the 10 worst railway stations has been produced. Somehow, Warrington Bank Quay with its new entrance hall is classified worse than such pointless things as St. Helens Junction. As for Liverpool Central underground station - I actually think it is super retro with its brown plastic seating!

Platt Fields Park Fireworks 2009
November 5, 2009, 10:58 pm

The fireworks were as good as usual, those who had come wearing wellington boots were the overall winners from the evening as a fair proportion of the park was rather waterlogged or just plain flooded in places. I would be interested to see the council risk assessment for the approved method of lighting the bonfire as there was a rather prominent smell of petrol in the air…
