THE RAILWAYS ARE SHORT OF CARRIAGES

January 25, 2010, 8:12 pm

The irony of this poster used during World War II is that it is as valid today as it was 70 years ago… especially on the East Midlands Trains service to Norwich. All the poster needs are for the initials of the “big four” to be replaced with the East Midlands Trains logo and I can see it being a perfect adornment to the vestibules of any Class 158!

Print entitled - The railways are short of carriages

A load of rubbish…

January 14, 2010, 9:48 pm

1) The council fails to grit the roads.

2) The council say they can’t take away anyones refuse as they claim their bin wagons can’t drive along the icy roads.

3) The council requests residents take all the refuse out of their wheelie bins, put it in their cars and drive it to a point where a bin wagon will be parked up all day.

What they don’t consider is that the rotting refuse has now been sitting in the wheelie bin since before christmas. I haven’t looked to see the extent of the eco-system growing inside the bin but i’m guessing it isn’t nice. I shall decline the councils refuse removal offer on this occasion I think.

Mr Station Snowman

January 7, 2010, 10:51 pm

I’m not sure what was the more unusual sight this week - a snowman which had appeared on Platform 4 / 5 at Manchester Oxford Road Railway Station or a First Transpennine Express service running on time. This was the snowman posing next to the 0907 service from Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough. I feel marks should be awarded for imaginative use of items out of the adjacent planter.

The Snow Family

January 5, 2010, 4:59 pm

When 6″ of snow falls in one day, things have to created with it. Hence, the remaining body from my pre-christmas Mr. Snowman has become Master Snowman. He has been joined by a new Mr. Snowman and a snow dog carrying a stick.

Iced Roads

January 5, 2010, 12:37 pm

It seems the A57 through Warrington hasn’t been gritted today and with the snow continuing to fall, it isn’t going to be particularly usable tomorrow when it turns to ice.
