More on Manchester’s banned buses…
I’ve been delving a little deeper into GM Buses / UK North’s problems… Not being knowledgeable on “The Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981″ or “The Transport Act 1985″, I don’t exactly know what the charges relate to. As there are however four charges, duplicated once for GM Buses and once for UK North I get the impression they could be in a fair bit of trouble.
- Consideration of disciplinary action under Section 17 (The Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981)
- Consideration of Transport Managers Repute under Schedule 3 (The Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981)
- Consideration of disciplinary action under Section 26 (The Transport Act 1985)
- Consideration of disciplinary action under Section 28 (The Transport Act 1985)
It will be interesting to see what happens on the 2nd when the public inquiry reconvenes.

hum. they have been bad boys, havent they?
somehow im not surprised.
would be interested to know if any of it is to do with their pricing- it seems to me that their fares were variable basically according to how much the driver thought they could get away with.much to my annoyance.grrrrrr

Did you see the coverage on BBC North (or whatever it’s called these days)?
The early TV reports berated “UK First Bus”, which must have got their lawyers excited as the BBC bleated apologies through the rest of the day.
First Bus is clearly not the operator of dangerous red vehicles in the Manchester area but is part of First Group, the expensive and unreliable operator of buses and trains. Greeting me when I returned to The South were two sets vouchers from First Group to compensate for their ropey FCC services.

I did see Gordon Burns offer a clarification… twice. Apparently UK North have had their ban extended until the 19th when either they will return to the roads or their licence to operate will be revoked permanently.

According to online news articles from the time, a company called Kroll were appointed as the official receivers but I wouldn’t rate your chances of getting anything from that avenue.
The former director of UK North is Vincenzo Casale. According to the Traffic Commisioner’s online records, his home address is 15 Meadow Field Close, Hadfield, Glossop, Derbyshire, SK13 2BL – you could give that a try…
