Manchester Bridges #3

Aside Castle Street, Castlefield, Manchester. (3 Images)

A pair of adjoining steel bridges. Each bridge is operated by a winding mechanism located in the vertical support which raises and lowers the deck. The large boxed areas painted white to each end historically would act as a counterbalance when the position of the deck is being altered – it is unclear whether they are merely included for aesthetic purposes in this modern version.
