Manchester Architecture #46

John Rylands Library, Deansgate, Manchester, M3 3EH. (7 Images)

Newly reopened and if you believe the signs everywhere, it is still a “working library”. A working library where you find all the books are in glass cases and almost all the people in there are just looking at the architecture. I would classify it more as a “Book Museum”. The visitor information leaflet recommends a visit to the original victorian toilets whilst you are there… they are apparently unchanged since 1900 (the sign specifically forbidding photography in the historic toilets rather amused me!).
